As a teenager I climbed over a number of NKP berkshires at Bellevue and Conneaut and they are impressive machines and luckily some have survived.

Lima berkshires were fast, but in the case of the Nickel Plate in revenue service they were fast freight locomotives. The NKP had a few Lima hudsons for passenger in steam days. IMHO the best overall all-purpose US steam locomotive will be a Northern. And extant: #844
