The Editorial on the Mococco is on the mark. Life is hard and then you die. These people all like the jobs they have that allow them to buy the houses, and all of those jobs are connected back to a robust economy. The need for reliable and cost effective rail transportation is part of that economic mix. With fuel prices going up, rail is becoming more competitive. The decapitalization of American railroads that reached its peak in the 70' and 80's is now reversing. Most of the debates on this site from NWP/NCRA, Coos Bay, Siskayou, Tulare, even the Pureto Colonet issue are now about how to rebuild or build and better utilize railroad assets.
One suggestion for the folks in East Contra Costa, have you thought of working with UP to expand access to ACE to servce these communities increasingly isolated by traffic congestion?
