Like most industries, I think trucking has suffered from a decline in the average quality of it's employees. We have a steep mountain pass in E. Oregon that gets closed at the slightest snowfall because some truckers refuse to chain up. I have driven this pass in fog so thick I could barely see 50' in front of me and felt comfortable at about 30 mph and been passed by trucks doing about 70 mph. And yes, I have driven trucks for a paycheck.
I have a friend who drove doubles for 40+ years who says he is appalled by the driving he sees by truck drivers today.
It's not fair to judge all drivers by the actions of some, but overall the quality of all drivers (car and truck) has declined over the years, IMHO.
