I have a suspicion that 2 axles are powered but I did not see any mention of how many traction motors in the Kiepe article. Otherwise I think you would have an underpowered problem, even on the flats.

The poles positioned atop the last section of the bus I think are for more than tradition. Probably for tracking the overhead better but as to pull ropes I dunno if I saw any in the image. Have to look again.
