Columbia BioEnergy, the first permitted biodesel refinery in Eastern Washington, has been approved by the Washington Community Economic revitalization Board, (CERB) for grant funding.
"This is great news!" Pam Kelley, executive director of the Lincoln County Economic Development Council (EDC) commented.
The award will result in a new contract between the state and the Northwest Lincoln County Regional Public Development Authority (PDA), which presented the application to CERB. A new lease agreement between the PDA and Columbia BioEnergy will be needed as well for the firm's location in the industrial park west of Creston.
The company has hired nine local employees thus far and has plans to add three more in the near future, Kelley reports. It is using the Palouse River-Coulee City railroad to transport soybean oil from the Midwest with a minimum anticipated usage of 100 cars per year.
"The PDA board and the owners of Columbia BioEnergy are all extremely pleased to have turned this project into a success for the Lincoln County community." Kelley said.
