Lee, interesting that you rode that train back then...I was in Portland in early June of '69 and had applied for a switchmans job @ SP&S. While waiting over a weekend, the late Jack Holst invited me on a trip over the Trunk in the Chapters Mt. Saint Helens, which was tacked onto the rear of the train. On the return out of Bend, we had a pair of the Alco RS-3s. Ed Immel & I noted the speedometer reading & had a hard time believing it, something like close to 80. It was the engineers first pay trip. We did see one of the C-415s on a Bieber bound freight while in Bend.
