EMD built 3 BL20-2 demonstrators. They were EMD 120-122 and were another attempt to break into the rebuild market, following the GP15 series.
All three were built on frames of ex-Burlington Northern GP9s, originally built for the CBQ, NP and SP&S, in mid-1992.
The innards were a combination of a rebuilt 16-567 engine, turboed to get 2000 horsepower, an AR10 alternator and Dash 2 electricals. The GP9 frame, trucks, trac. motors, prime mover and other items like fans and controls were rebuilt and reused. The cab and carbody were all-new and they featured GP60 style DB grids.
They demoed for 2-3 years, but no one wanted more, even though they were reportedly good runners. I would guess they cost too much.
Yeah, 2 are on SJVR. I think the third is still on CORP, but not positive.
