Preserve the Coyote Depot
Built in 1868-69 for the San Jose & Pajaro Valley Railroad, the Coyote Depot is one of the oldest railroad structures in California. Early after its construction, a four-room residence was attached to the original depot structure for use by the assigned station agent. The depot served as a flag station for the Coyote community until its closing in 1959. It has been used as a private residence until recently.
Acknowledging its historical significance and concerned for the long term security for the structure and a nearby water tower, a community effort has now begun. Positive communication has been established with the property owner, the Union Pacific Railroad. This first public, Preserve the Coyote Depot, conversation is meant to broaden awareness of this effort and to create a dialog among interested parties.
