What was the cause this time? Drugs? Alcohol? Someone too distracted by their cell phone to be aware of their surroundings?
My ex wife, who comes from Latin America, once told me that a lot of the pedestrian vs. car accidents in her native country were due to the fact that poor peasants had been moving to the big cities from rural areas, where a lot of people may not have ever even seen a car or truck first hand. These people often step into traffic on busy streets, oblivious to the fact that these vehicles cannot stop on a dime, with the predictable result. The same thing may be happening with trains, especially in areas with high immigrant populations.
