These days, the coroner wants to find and catalog every little piece of the deceased. Once, we had a vehicle strike in Fremont, CA (not a fatality, although the driver did leave in a helicopter--always a bad sign), and the police were taking a really long time to do their thing. I asked the head cop if they were about done, and he exclaimed, "You can't leave, this is a crime scene!" You should have seen the look on his face when I said, "I think you guys probably watch too much television."
Or, as I like to say, "It's the 21st Century, nothing is simple."
