Lee Hower in the thread below about the C415s, mentioned the OETM Fallbrook Excursion of November 5, 1966 (yes the date is etched in my memory.) I was all of 14, and lived in Walnut, California. I saw the Trains magazine Excursions listing for this trip, and immediately started pestering my Mom to ride it. I was given a provisional ok as long as I wrote a letter to OETM to see if it was ok for an unattended 14 yr. to ride. I received a nice letter back from Ed VonNordeck, explaining that it was ok to ride, as long a I had a medical release from the rents. YeeHaw!!!! This trip and many others to follow opened up my eyes to the fascinating world of Southern California railroading...Cajon, Tehachapi, Cima Hill...behind PAs, E and F units...riding in the ex CP 599, and the ATSF 1509....meeting many new friends, and all this before most of the railroad plant rationalization that followed.
Thanks again Ed VonNordeck!
