In Amtrak's early days, many trains had locomotives still painted in pre-Amtrak colours (i.e. AT & SF, BN, UP, Penn Central among others.) In 1974, I rode the Potomac Special between Washington, DC and Cumberland, MD which had for power an E8 still painted in B & O colours.
