The second link 2014 can easily be discarded, especially if you read page 2. It is a publication by a Los Angeles organization and conducted by a Los Angeles organization, hardly bias free. It clearly states it is for informational purposes only and specifically states it is NOT to be considered representative of actual factual official information.
As for that 2014 Los Angeles Times article, as per normal biased news reporting, it does not tell the whole story. Per the US Bureau of Labor Statistics, there are 22 different classifications of manufacturing with easily over a hundred sub classes. Most of these are actually very light or minor. Most of those are in small to medium sized building employing less than 50 people.
