Housing for the people of California

For those who haven't been keeping up with the heart condition of California NIMBYs:
In the last legislative session about a dozen bills were passed and signed by the governor to encourage the construction of more housing in California. Over the last twenty years only about half of the needed housing has been constructed. The main reason for this is that many cities and counties made it difficult and/or expensive to build anything, with the possible exception of single family homes.
These laws are just starting to bite. Here is the list of cities that must allow construction of projects with certain amounts of lower income units:

Well that helped, but more needs to be done. So to get the pot boiling SB827 has been introduced. It is my belief that it will be modified before passage, but it sure got the NIMBY's knickers in a knot (Hi there Mouse).

This is definitely not a left/right thing. The mayor of Berkeley called it an attack on cities and the list of city councils with rising blood pressure includes just about every definitely liberal area in the state. But remember, it was introduced by Wiener and Skinner. No righties there.
This is going to be fun to watch. The thing I don't know is how the city councils in Republican areas are going to react. I haven't seen much yet in the news.
