There were quite a few 760mm gauge lines in the "Donaumonarchie" (aka Austro-hungarian monarchy). That gauge even seemed to be preferred over meter gauge at the time.
Today, you still find a bunch of active 760mm lines in Austria (Mariazeller Bahn, Krimml, Murtalbahn, etc. which have have new to very new rolling stock, and decent passenger and freight traffic.
Also well known, from another corner of the monarchy, are the Romanian Forest Railways (CFF), which are all 760mm gauge.
The main reason for this gauge was, indeed costs.
