Margaret,
The old heads told me that the 2-6-0s were given that moniker because they put everything behind the draw bar and it would still move the train just as a Malley would but not as fast.
I had a 1.5 steam engine, matched to a full size 2-6-0. It hauled 40 cars around the park in Medford, Train Mountain, Sacramento and about 5 other parks, without help.
That engine sits today, up on the second floor at the museum at Sacramento. They wanted it because of the exact looks and the way it was built.
The origional was built by Andy Clerci in Napa. I took it down to the frame and rebuilt it, along with a new boiler. It was the best steamer I ever operated on that scale. ( I ran Toms "Big Boy" and other engines but the "Valley Mallet" really got down and worked.
