I have forgotten the brake valve numbers. The ones the SP had on their SD-9s and GPs, exhausted into the cab. Also a lot of the old switchers, FBs, BLH, etc. The had the main reservoir notch blocked to release the brakes. As far as "Lap", if the brake valve had been through the shops, there was a brass tag with the letter "M" riveted to the valve. That showed it had been converted to pressure maintaining in the old lap position.
Those valves and a few of the covered wagons did exhaust right into the cab. That's one of the reasons we don't have any hearing in our left ears.
