Miss those open auto racks, as a kid it was fun to watch the new models roll into town at the beginning of a new auto season.
Only rode empty triple deck racks, which were better than riding a vista dome. I could add more about our auto rack riding but have already mentioned some details of our freight rides here before and will avoid repetition.
Will however mention that we always let the crew know that we wanted to ride and each time they were friendly and accommodating, even telling us how far back the empty boxcars were located.
Different times found no need to move around the yard and equipment like rock crabs, as the riders must do these days and 40 ft boxcars offered what looks to be a better experience than the wells of cars. Sure wish we had cheap digital movie film though, looking back forty plus years to the rail action, including our interaction and voices would be beyond entertaining today.
