We should be spending money on cost competitive, frequent fast, rail systems that actually meet our travel demands, and relieve deficiencies in our current transportation system.

It is a debate on how to best run the good ship lollipop from you two, that gives us all a clear choice between a delusional conspiracy addled tweedle dumb and a true believer "build it and they will come" tweedle dumber....... Imagine dealing with the real world, in small but doable steps, to solve real problems, with effective, affordable, pragmatic visions?

I worked at one time, worked on a proposal that we use an extension of the 118 under Saugus Mountain, to a connection with the 14 near Lang, in a toll tunnel, where the second level could be used for the HSR, and aqueduct. We looked at this multimodal tunnel approach and found that would pay for itself in a fully privately funded project on the road tolls, of those avoiding miles of extra travel and congestion via the 5/14. HSR could then use the median or adjacent ROW of the 118 to SF road, where you would build a connection to the SF Road Corridor north of Burbank Airport

That would meet two pressing, real, and fully documented travel needs and current deficiencies, by offering competitive rail service capacity and travel times, and by relieving severe traffic congestion at a major existing bottleneck. This, of course, would have the added benefits of reducing fuel consumption, and the resultant emissions from modal shift and shorter driving trips to the final destinations.

All of the current proposals on entering LA are still complete and utter nonsense, costly, and nimby magnets, after year more and millions more in funds pissed away on still more poor planning.

Right now, we are on "track" with the CHSRA fiasco to have a system that finally collapses when the political "well" full of "will" finally runs dry, and is unable to slop the trough, because the taxpayers will no longer foot the bill.
