Although Winter Rail is THE event (so I've heard), my version of Winter Rail is with some buddies trackside to feel the brush of harsh winter off of a fast moving train. It is a yearly event- most definetly on what we could consider the coldest day of the year. Starting in the early morning- and always ending after sundown, makes for a sobering view of winter railroad operations. We are either drinking coffee or hot chocolate, sitting in a restaurant with a view of the tracks, or an idling vehicle watching trains. Sometimes a picture or two when the conditions are right.
Trying to operate my vintage Pentax K1000 with wool mittens---- well, it's just like threading a needle wearing oven mits---- not easy. I love it. Last few years have been digital, but ol' trusty is always in the car for those outings. Hope nobody minds me calling that Winter rail. The real thing sounds like more fun (and warmer).
Is the real Winter Rail always held in the same city?
