The Railfan Travel Budget

I can remember when one could do an auto trip with one's own vehicle for $50 a day, gas, food, and lodging. Film costs not included. Today I figure the cost is close to $200. Figure $250 to $300 if one is renting a car. Its hard to find a decent motel for much less than $70 these days, and if you are say planning to go to San Francisco to ride PCC cars, $250 hotel rooms in the City are the norm. At least these days, an SD card is a lot cheaper than a brick of Kodachrome.
