My wife and I are heading out for a trip from NE Oregon to the Black Hills sometime in May. We book motels through one of the online brokers and drive a late model Buick that gets 30 mpg. so our trip won't be too expensive. I think this year we will try and follow the mainline through ND as we have seen the Powder River Basin operations before. It's hard to believe, but it's really hard to find a good motel for less than $100 now. Once we get to the Black Hills, we will try using airBNB to find something for a week or so Hope to make it to Pierre, but definitely was go to Rapid to see rail operations there. It's always fun this time of year to plan upcoming trips.
