Let's talk about the roots. When did the term "homeless" become part of are vocabulary. If you don't want to work ,if you don't like people telling you what to do. If you like to drink, smoke some pot and get high on anything does that make you homeless or a bum. We can't use the term bum anymore. Americans used to take whatever work was available including (in my lifetime) picking fruit and vegetables, hauling garbage, landscaping, handyman work or whatever. Americans became too good for many low paying starter jobs. About the same time society changed and became more tolerant of the hippie like "free" lifestyle. It's politically incorrect to judge people. We see young healthy people capable of work begging on the streets. But it's Okay. The cops used to tap them with a nightstick and tell them to move on . There style of living was not welcome . Now we give the homeless food ,shelter and our blessing. What do we get in return. More homeless, we keep legitimizing there lifestyle when they might just need a good kick in the butt.
Those with physical and mental health issues who cannot work or support themselves should be given housing and support.
