Yes, when you don't adjust the gas tax for inflation it eventually bites. There are Republicans pushing a repeal of the recent gas tax adjustment. Ask them about it. Actually they don't expect the proposal to pass, they just want to use it to get out the vote of the "any tax is bad" base.

And that surplus? Times are good, but it wasn't that long ago that times were bad. Brown funded the rainy day fund so there would be funds when needed.
