Look at who's in charge and what the object of the exercise is. Amtrak under this administration must either reach full cost recovery and be sold off by the govt, or must die, and the Delta airline chief was hired to do that. Eliminating all distractions and unnecessary costs will help with that, and most likely will end up with eliminating Amtrak in favor of regional Basic Economy services paid for by states. Otherwise, private moves must be made by private railroads, so the PVs left out the cold somewhere must pay for one final ride home by freight train.
