Re: Radio Questions

A number of years ago, I purchased a Diamond RH77CA antenna for my hand-held scanner (which I use to listen to railroad operations). I found that it almost doubled the range at which I could pick up various signals -- compared to the antenna that came with the scanner. (The RH77CA antenna can, of course, be used to both transmit and receive, though I use it only to listen.) I have since seen some professional railroaders using the same or similar antennas on their hand-held radios -- replacing the antenna that came with their radio.
The flexible antenna is about 14 inches long an comes with a BNC connector, which should work with most types of contemporary radios.
The vendor from which I bought the antenna is no longer in business, but a Google search for "Diamond RH77CA antenna" showed a number of sources selling the antenna for under $25. (You can also see pictures in some of these listings.) I don't remember what I paid for mine, but it was a good investment.
Hope that helps.
