What has happened to the once-great GE is the result of 16 years of inept and corrupt management aided and abetted by a bunch of greedy Board members that were content to rubber-stamp anything management proposed as long as they got their stock options and payments for attending Board meetings. I have owned GE stock for decades, to my regret. Jeff Immelt and his co-conspirators should all be wearing orange jump suits. Bernie Madoff was a piker compared to what GE management and BOD have done over the past years. They all live regally on their ill-gotten gains while GE shareholders and employees are left behind.
