Man, I am getting old. Too many things that I have appreciated, personally or from afar, have disappeared. Mainline steam, of course. Daily newspapers with thick Sunday editions including rotogravure magazines. Big clocks on the front of gas stations. Real movie stars. Pedestrians wary of cars. Dressing up for a restaurant meal. Legislators who work across the aisle to actually accomplish something. Now dining cars? Next: cars that you actually can drive.

I don't travel much anymore, and I do on Amtrak when I have the chance. My last Amtrak trip in first class did have several downsides, but dining car food wasn't one of them.

Ah, well. At least I have my memories. I hope I don't remember Richard Anderson, with whom I am embarrassed that I share a last name, very long.
