I can't quote a running time but yesterdays #14 was only 32 minutes late into Oakland.

Sacramento direct to LA down the valley is rven faster, but misses all those pesky cities and passengers plus UP won't yet allow it regular. California & BNSF already sunk a bundle just to get the loop route to handle 8000 ft plus trains.

Lead project is the tunnels on Metrolink near Chatsworth. Somebody also mentioned another UP project up the coast. Doing several projects during a 'closure' makes sense.

The tools exist to figure running times at the Amtrak status map site.
