I've been avoiding the troll bait lately, but couldn't help but respond.....
One way to reduce congestion is to get people to "ditch" their cars, and with the advent of super cheap "cab fares" from "rideshare" "apps" (as opposed to idiots working for less than the depreciation and insurance on their vehicles to make investors rich). Soon, despite the latest screw ups, and certainly ibn the next ten years, we will have fleets of "driverless" on-demand vehicles available.
One of the big savings from this is likely to be in reducing future parking costs. As my old pal Stan Hart once calculated SOU CA may have had somewhere between 16 and 27 parking spaces per vehicle (parking lots, on street, garage, driveway space, etc.).
So, if we are building choo choo's purportedly because we are trying to "reduce" urban "sprawl" and it supposed impacts, like excessive auto "traffic", and are concerned about unaffordable housing partly because of the amount of land consumed by "parking" requirements, why would we be encouraging "sprawl" in Gilroy, but prevent it in Los Banos, by not stopping....? It's all bull$#it, it's always been bull$#it, and it continues to be bull$#it.....it's CHSRA........
It is a project that does not really meet any of our states identified travel needs or deficiencies, and never did.... So, after 23 years, of working on and following this fiasco, it is really no surprise to me.
So spending this kind of money on this kind of monstrous parking structure for any kind of rail services departing from Gilroy, strikes me as typical of the "self generating", "taxpayer supported","contractor managed and staffed", "Great CHSRA, "come one/ come all"..... "state contractor" "trough slopping" contest..........
