The new name is OK, as it does skirt the Northern edge of The Palouse, and it is easier to comprehend than the dual former names: Iron Horse Trail State Park and John Wayne Pioneer Trail. Iron Horse Trail was also often confused with Iron Goat Trail, the old Great Northern R of W over Stevens Pass. The proposed name Milwaukee Road Corridor was not likely to resonate well with a population well removed from exposure to The Milwaukee Road, some 38 years after the last Lines West train ran.
