Your point on the green boiler raises an interesting question...I've always found it intriguing in reading through the Baldwin records posted on line that just about every new steam locomotive left their plant with green boiler jackets. Somewhere along the line we seem to have generated a societal understanding of all steam locomotives being pure black, which does not seem to square with at least some historical realities. While it's not a Baldwin, the McCloud River 25 is a typical example of a steam locomotive that spent its entire working life painted mostly green, followed by a long tourist career painted all black. I'm heartened to see the #2 painted the way it is!
