"The Authority is determined to construct a high-speed rail system that will reconnect the state, link economies and fundamentally modernize and improve travel in California."
So we are building this for metaphorical reasons?
I can, right now, as I write this, get to the Bay Area from Burbank, faster than I can get to San Diego, Riverside, Palm Springs, San Bernardino, Santa Barbara (hell even Ventura, or even to "distant" Santa Monica, by any form of transportation.....
What we still don't seem to have is any evidence of this supposed "need" to "re-connect" with Sacramento, San Jose, Oakland, or SFO, since there is no lack of air services available out of LAX, Burbank, Ontario, John Wayne, or Palm Springs to the Bay Area.
"Over the years, the project has attracted some detractors. Naysayers are not unusual for iconic, transformative infrastructure projects, but are short-sighted."
As we taxpayers sit in gridlocked traffic, we are cajoled with the need to piss away billions in tribute to this transformative "icon" at which the hogs all worship.... And this is because we're all to "near sighted" to "see" all of the truly visionary transformation, of our tax dollars, into a project that still can't identify who will ride it, from where to where, at what fare, at what cost to operate, and how that will help to "reconnect" our gridlocked citizens, in any way shape or form.
