FWIW, the last regular SP passenger service on the Siskiyou was trains 329-330 overnight between Portland and Ashland. This train came off in August 1955. It ran with a GP9 at the end. Passenger service south of Ashland ended a few years earlier.
Superliners would likely not fit through some of the tunnels south of Ashland. When the SP 4449 went to Medford in December 1988, the Rio Grande dome "Calfornia" was in the train. It was switched out at Medford and returned north with the 4449.
SP 150, the Sunset, at the east portal of Tunnel 13 in August 1987.
SP 4449 and train on the Siskiyou near Goshen, December 1988. Note the dome.
