Bus ridership is down on most systems in the US for the same reasons cited in the article, increasing congestion. Uber & Lyft area also drawing riders away from transit while adding to traffic congestion.

More exclusive bus lanes and traffic lights which provide priority for buses are one solution. Requiring Uber to charge riders the actual cost of providing service should also be done.

Seattle is one of the few metro areas in the US where bus ridership is increasing.
