Most buses now have stop announcement systems - in fact, they might be required by ADA. The modern ones all have GPS built in so they know where the bus is and what stop is next. Some are able to "report back" to Dispatch so the system knows where the bus is. That makes "Next Bus" type arrangements more feasible than in the past, and many systems are now doing it with bus trackers on their web sites and apps (much cheaper than installing a bunch of signs around town). Are unions still actually trying to block that? Interesting that rail operations don't seem to have adopted GPS as much as buses - but then the trains (except of course in SF) don't really need it as long as they're near the schedule, and the driver has a working radio to talk to Dispatch when stuff happens.
