I've subscribed to "Trains" continuously since 1965, so that's probably why I still do. I agree that it's not what it was, and that may be partly because there's just no one else to compare with David P. Morgan (and J. David Ingles). I personally enjoyed the article on trains along the Rhine (I do travel to Europe periodically, and railfan a bit while I'm there), as well as other foreign content because frankly I'm interested in all railways. Being rather old-fashioned, I currently subscribe to ten rail-oriented magazines, but if I had to limit myself to one it would probably be "Railfan & Railroad" since it combined with "Railroads Illustrated" (formerly "CTC Board").
On the other hand, it might be that "Trains" just reflects how the world has changed in general. Think I'll go look at some slides...
