I've been hot and cold when it comes to TRAINS for a while now. When authors like Scott Lothes or my old buddy Ben Bachman show up it's like a blast from the old "glory days" of the great photo essays of the 50's and 60's. One thing I have noticed is that the overall quality to writing has diminished. The writers seem to stick to a very predictable style and writing formula. Be it DPM, Ted, Dick, Blair and others, they knew how to turn a phrase and use language to enhance the photos. This you do not see anymore and I miss that aspect.
Content wise, there isn't a whole lot anymore that interests me. I try to plow through the industry slanted articles, but as mentioned above, I find the writing dry and boring. Most of the magazines are tossed in the recycle fairly quickly after arriving.
It's not your father's TRAINS but I guess it's not supposed to be.
