To Our Customers,

Our rail network continues to be impacted by a tunnel collapse that occurred between Eugene and Chemult, Oregon on May 29. We originally estimated repairs to be completed within 10 days, but due to the remote location and severity of the repairs required, we now anticipate the tunnel to be out of service until late next week.

Most traffic in this area is being rerouted through Salt Lake City, Utah, resulting in additional transit time of four to five days.

And in other news -

The "416 Fire" outside Durango, Colorado is now 8,000+ acres and only around 10% contained. 1,600 homes evacuated and another 1,200+ on standby, but no structures lost so far. The Durango & Silverton has had to suspend operations since the fire started (two trains stranded in Silverton), and their train may have been the cause which is still under investigation. It doesn't look like D&S even has a date they can aim for yet to resume operations, and it may be initially with diesels instead of steam.

Related to that - the same parent company owns the Mt. Rainier Scenic, and they have announced a suspension of operations until August. Speculation is that profits from the D&S were being used to support MRSR's operations they are trying to rebuild into profitability. Does not appear to have affected Great Smokey Mountain yet.

This is going to be a bad year for fires in the west. At least there has been a slow light rain in Baker City this morning, so hopefully fire season will hold off here a little longer.
