Sierra Railway, by Dorothy Newell Deane, a fascinating tale of this historic road, from the end of the "gold rush" during the 1890's to about 1960.
A real tale about a real and famous CA short line RR, but also a story about how we built the state, from lumbering, and fruit packing, and digging for gold, to building dams, and making movies..... It's a RR that helped actually build a lot of parts of the complex water infrastructure that we take for granted today, and now just seem to think somehow miraculously appeared.....
