And of course there's the little town of Palouse itself. Hey Bruce, speaking of Grand Jct., I've got a little story, which I'll actually try to keep short. Remember I said back in the 80s I recalled the section shed? I've actually got B&W of them breaking out the speeder for a day's track patrol. It turned out later on that the guy who was the section foreman/maintainer got married to a lady who managed the group of 1-hour photo labs I worked at back then. (We had shops in Post Falls, CdA, and Hayden.) So my boss lady was impressed that I actually knew what kind of work her husband did and that I didn't consider it to be the lowly manual toil that she did. But it got really strange one day when a Spokane TV station did a story on local adults who couldn't read or write and were going through remedial education. There on the tube was that track worker, my boss's husband, taking part in a class on basic reading/writing skills. Wonder how many railroaders there are today who struggle with this.
