The Yard is a movie about corruption on the subway.

Back in the 60s the man in charge promoted efficiency by using carrots- and more carrots
The unions loved him, but I heard a former operator, who retired after 20 years and emigrated to be an operator for Muni, relate his experiences with very poor maintenance.
Dunno how much the rate of decline was arrested.
Perhaps if I actually read the article......
