He is doing fine, working for Wasatch Rail Contractors in Cheyenne [www.wrrc.us]
They just did a cosmetic restoration on 4004 in the park in Cheyenne. Check TO if you can, under steam category. Current photo of him there.

As for his opinions on 4014, he has not said anything publicly about it, various people who have asked him are not saying.
