I would imagine he possibly would have the same opinion as others in the steam game... that the UP 3985 is pretty darn close to the length of a Big Boy and could operate over most of the UP system as has been proven over the years past of operation. So why push the company to spend millions of dollars on a full restoration of a different just slightly larger locomotive when the 3985 only needed a 1472 and some other odds and ends to be out on the road with pretty much the same wow factor in the general public eyes since it too is a very large locomotive. UP could have saved a ton of money for their 150th by just using the UP 844 or 3985 and contracting the SP 4449 to go to Ogden as a wow for the celebration. Same great PR... millions of dollars saved in the long run.
