The ILWU has solidified their IRON GRIP on the Ports by claiming that all work done " On Dock " ( i.e. - within the fences of a ILWU - Represented Port facility ) is Longshore work. This has resulted in Longshore bouncing out Teamster hostlers, IAM Chassis mechanics, and even IBEW Electricians. Their spat with IBEW over 2 positions plugging in reefer containers at Hanjin in Portland, OR., is often credited as the reason Hanjin quit calling on Port of Portland. Of course Hanjin Shipping went toes - up a while later anyways, but it was still a twisted example of Union Solidarity( as long as it's the Longshore Union. )
