The branch is totally cut off from the main line, needs to be totally rebuilt— last estimate some years ago was $38 mil not including retrofitting bridge over Salinas river. It ends in the Costco parking lot in Seaside. The rest of the ROW into Pacific Grove is a heavily used rec trail. The commuter connection from Salinas to Gilroy and pts north on the UP coast line has been promised for the last 20 years.
