Wes is correct with the chain up locations although Whitmore is usually referred to as Kingvale. Occasionally during cold storms Colfax will be a chain up location and if they close the highway they normally do that at Colfax. On the east side chain up locations are Donner Lake interchange above the lake, Truckee or possibly state line during the coldest storms. If the highway closes down on the east side it's usually Verdi.
