The Whitmore and Kingvale locations referred to in this thread are two different Caltrans Maintenance Stations 18 miles apart on Donner Pass.

Whitmore is located 55 miles northeast of Rosville, CA, and is between the eastbound and westbound lanes of I-80. I know where Whitmore is because I stayed there for 2 weeks in the summer of 1995 when Caltrans sent a bunch of us Highway Maintenane Workers there to go through their Motorized Equipment Training Academy -- "META." There is a barracks there with a kitchen that is used mostly for Caltrans employes when the are up on Donner doing chain control and fighting snow in the winters.

Kingvale is located 69 miles northeast of Roseville, CA, off of I-80 on Donner Pass Road. I know about this place because a fellow Caltrans employee, a civil engineer, stayed there a long time ago for some kind of training.
