SVS is correct. It's California grass/oak woodlands. Drainages and sheltered slopes have fir and pine in the interior, but the redwood forests everyone is looking for is north from Fort Seward and not really much until you approach South Fork.

A trail in the urbanized East is much different than "way out there" in the West. Some government entity will have to bare responsibility and hire "rangers" to patrol this thing on ATV's or horseback. It's largely surrounded by private property whose owners don't want public access....for one reason or another. Rafting the Eel is probably as far as you want go with any of this?
