One more thing I noticed from your unique shot that you really do not see that clearly from the ground is the St Joe River in the background. It actually flows through the lakes - forming its own natural levee - until it finally reaches the southern end of Lake Coeur d'Alene. Used to be a lot of logs taken down the St Joe and across Lake CDA
to the mills over in the Post Falls area. Also a lot of steamboats went up and down the river at least to the town of St Joe, with stop overs at St Maries along the way. The "good old days." I think someone claimed the St Joe was the highest (altitude) navigable river in the U.S.? Nut do not know about that.
